Read the market name before you assume overtime counts. The basketball chapter's default is regular time: four quarters. Markets that include overtime say so, usually with "(incl. Overtime)" in the title. Money line, handicap and total lines are often offered with that suffix. If the suffix is missing, overtime is out.
Player props are the exception inside that chapter: they include overtime by default, and they use the official box score. Full text: sportsbook rules. In-play timing is on live betting.
Overtime and props
Halves: the first half is quarters one and two. The second half is quarters three and four. Overtime is not folded into the second half unless the market says so.
If a two-way money line excludes overtime and the game is tied at the end of regulation, that market is void.
Player props (points, rebounds, assists and the rest) include overtime. The bet has action once the player steps on the court with the clock running, starter or not. Leave the game injured and the bet still stands on the numbers they posted. A "first player to…" market is void if that player was not on the court when the event happened.
A points line that lands exactly on the number is void. An "at least 25" prop wins at 25 or more.
Examples
Winner (incl. overtime), team A wins 110-105. Team A wins the bet. That is the example in the general market rules.
Total points even, score 102-98. Two hundred points. The even bet wins.
Player prop, the player never checks in. Void. Same player plays two minutes, then sits. The bet stands on those two minutes of stats, including anything they add in overtime.
Abandoned in the third quarter with race-to-20 already hit. That race market settles. Totals that are not yet decided are void if the game is not finished inside 48 hours.
Basketball FAQ
Does overtime count on the spread?
Only if the market name includes overtime. A spread without that label settles on four quarters.
A winner market that says incl. overtime uses the final score after any extra period. The rules' example is 110-105.
The player checked in for 40 seconds and fouled out. Does the prop stand?
Yes, if the player was on the court while the game clock was running. The prop settles on the stats they actually recorded.
If they never enter the court, the prop is void.
Which box score is used?
The league's official box score, such as NBA, NCAA or EuroLeague. A later stat correction after the official settlement is not applied.
The game is postponed two days. What happens?
If it starts or resumes within 48 hours of the original time, bets stay. Past 48 hours, unsettled bets are void.
A market that already reached a natural conclusion, such as race to 20 after a team has 20, still settles.
Do quarter bets include overtime?
No. A quarter market is only that quarter. Second-half markets are the third and fourth quarters, and they exclude overtime unless the name says otherwise.
